Features Review

Tap Once or Sing for the Moment

SoundHound works the same way as Shazam or other music recognition services (if you know any). While the track is playing, you need to tap the central button. If you use an Apple Watch, you don’t even have to turn on your iPhone: a watch app does the recognition well, though it only shows the artist, the name of the track, its cover and lyrics (if available). The main window on your phone or tablet is much more informative. It will display all of the above. Wear OS users, alas, are bereft of that.

Your searches are stored in your log, so you don’t have to recollect what it was you heard yesterday in a taxi or on Friday in a club. Just look it up in your history!

But the most amazing feature is recognizing the song without actually having it playing. If its verses, chorus, or just melody is stuck in your head, just sing it or even mumble and let the mic record it. Chances are SoundHound will catch it. We have checked: most of the popular tunes can be recognized this way.

Easier Listening

SoundHound free download is available for all platforms, including officially dead Windows Phone (though SoundHound for Windows Phone is just as abandoned). But it also shows lots of ads. You can get rid of them by purchasing Infinity version for $6.99.

The app can get connected to musical services as well. It can automatically add this song to your favourites on Spotify or (if you use an iDevice) Apple Music. It takes just two taps to connect the accounts. Then you can voice command the app to play a particular track. SoundHound Android version will run Spotify (if available), and SoundHound iOS version is better with Apple Music.

Pros

? Easy interface;

? Large music database;

? Lyrics, covers, and other metadata included;

? Voice control;

? You can just sing or hum a song to recognize it.

Cons

? Too many ads in the free version;

?  No Wear OS app.

Chasing the Music

Of course, we all know the rival to this app, but SoundHound has some more things to offer. So download SoundHound now, and let the chase begin.
