Features Review
AirDrop for Everyone
Well, each Apple user knows the principle of sharing data via AirDrop, detecting other Apple devices nearby and sending to them what you want (hey, we mean decent content!) SHAREit, the app developed by Lenovo, has the same basic ability that expands much wider. With SHAREit you can send and receive files from any phone or tablet, desktop or laptop, regardless of its OS and file system.
So you can send pictures and videos, documents and contacts, audios and links, and other data supported by your OS, in a matter of seconds. Sometimes, when you, say, need to send out a single video file larger than your personal cloud capacity, SHAREit is the only one to the rescue.
The app utilizes a “server-client” method. One user creates a server that others can connect to, and in this ad-hoc network, the service transfers files via Wi-Fi. It’s much faster than Bluetooth, requires no Wi-Fi router around and no cloud storage as a media, and is not limited to the same platform. SHAREit seems a perfect way to exchange files, without size limitations.
But it seems to cover other methods as well, like creating a charmed area in your memory or sending a direct link via web-generated QR-code.
Security Features
Heh, this SHAREit review can’t avoid the type of pics you all think about when say “AirDrop” or something like that. No, SHAREit is no environment to send somebody’s pictures with no face featured. You only run SHAREit when you need to send or receive a file, so it’s inactive most of the time.
And even when it’s on, it only allows those you approve on. The connection it establishes is just as secure as any password-protected Wi-Fi. It’s a shame, though, that only Android devices can run a really cross-platform server. If you do it on your iDevice, only iOS users will be able to connect. Still, it makes some sense to opt for it and keep AirDrop off, especially if you’ve been sent some particular pics before.
Pros
• Truly cross-platform;
• Up to 40x faster than Bluetooth connection;
• Secure connection;
• No Richard pics!
Cons
• The app shows lots of ads;
• Old devices still not supported (and will never be);
• Can’t start a server to let Android devices in.
The Company App
If you need to send out some photos to your friends or colleagues often, you better download SHAREit and figure out how to use it. It will definitely pay.
