Based on Twitted Events
The app was obviously planned as something to deliver you the freshest news on freshest movies. The idea of aggregating official Twitter channels with official news on movies seems fruitful. So what you see is the catalog of Twitter pages by IMDB, TotalFilm, MoviesNow and other recognized sources, all put in one shell.
Then why not just subscribe to them on the actual Twitter? Because it’s just a part of what the app offers. It also shows the stats on the box office record makers, as well as official feeds by TrailerAddict, Google Facts (the cinema-related feed, of course), and some other sources.
The pages are quite readable, the fonts are contrast, and the background doesn’t distract. So you can concentrate on playing trailers and reading news.
How It’s Made
While the idea of aggregating movie authority feeds in one app is okay, the realization looks as if developer was in too much hurry. Here comes the dark side of Popcorn Time review. First of all, the compilation of the feeds seems a bit illogical. Double presence of IMDB seems a bit too much. The original channels by studios would have deserved a separate section, as well as those by prominent persons.
Two more things it would be great to have in this app are internal hashtag handling and a built-in web browser. It’s no fun to open links in Safari and then switch back to Popcorn Time. Then, again, the best the developer could do with hashtags is to link them to all covered mentioning and show the internal feed on it when tapped. They work like Twitter hashtags instead.
Anyway, the app as a news aggregator is quite an interesting one, and its existence makes sense. It could have been better, but anyone starts somewhere.
Pros
• Official feeds in one app;
• Trailers and posters for you to see;
• Lots of rumors and unofficial info that makes life more fun;
• Good readability.
Cons
• The source compilation is illogical;
• No built-in browser for links or hashtags;
• The pages won’t load when the connection is poor.
Is It Popcorn Time?
If you download Popcorn Time, you’ll surely get loads of info to read. But it could have been systemized some better way.
